Two Piano Recitals on Structure, Memory, and Collapse.
The programme explores composers working at the edge of inherited musical forms, where dance rhythms become unstable, memory fragments, and fantasy begins to overtake structure. Through works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Ludwig van Beethoven, Alban Berg, Maurice Ravel, George Benjamin, Frédéric Chopin, and Franz Schubert, the recital traces a lineage from classical order toward psychological and sonic dissolution.
The programme is as follows:
Luke Zhang:
Alban Berg — Piano Sonata, Op. 1
Ludwig van Beethoven — Piano Sonata No. 18 in E-flat Major, Op. 31 No. 3
Maurice Ravel — La Valse
Sean Kim:
Johann Sebastian Bach — Prelude and Fugue in E-flat Major, BWV 852
George Benjamin — Meditation on a Theme by Haydn
Maurice Ravel — Une Barque sur l’océan (Miroirs: no. 3)
Franz Schubert — Fantasie in C Major, D. 760 “Wanderer Fantasy”
