Luke Zhang is a New Zealand-born pianist based in Sydney whose performances focus on the Romantic piano tradition. He is currently a doctoral candidate at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, where his research explores Romantic expression and Polish nationalism in the piano works of Aleksander Michałowski, integrating historical scholarship with performance and examining the interpretive traditions of the Polish piano school.
As a performer, Luke has appeared in recital and concerto performances across Australia and Asia. Recent engagements include a performance of Piano Concerto No. 1 in E-flat major, S.124 by Franz Liszt with the Gimpo Philharmonic Orchestra in Seoul. His repertoire focuses particularly on the music of Frédéric Chopin, Liszt, and composers associated with the Polish Romantic piano tradition.
Luke is also co-director of Hansori Music, an initiative that provides concert opportunities, educational workshops, and performance platforms for emerging musicians.
Luke maintains an active teaching studio teaching both Violin and Piano to students of diverse ages and levels. His teaching emphasises the development of secure pianistic technique, stylistic understanding, and a thoughtful approach to musical interpretation. Many of his students have received prizes in competitions and eisteddfods across Australia, with several achieving first prizes at major events. Students from his studio have also been awarded full scholarships to leading private schools and have received recognition in international competitions.
He holds degrees in music performance including a Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Music (Honours), and Master of Music in Keyboard Performance, and currently pursues doctoral studies at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, working with concert pianist Konstantin Shamray.
